November 2005 Meeting | --January 07th, 2006 05:47 PM |

| Article submitted to Harrison Daily Times reporting BCGS November 2005 meeting. | |
| Boone County Genealogical Society November 2005 Meeting President Ruth Fisher led the business session of the Boone County Genealogical Society in its regular monthly meeting on November 10, 2005, at the Family History Center, Harrison. Secretary Janis Carlton read the minutes of the October meeting and Nancie Carrigan gave the treasurer’s report. James McMurrin, webmaster, announced that the BCGS website is now online and available to members and the public at www.boonecoargen.com. Brenda Dickey reported that the Family History Center now has all of the microfilm of the Boone County records and they are available for research. Brenda also gave the numbers of the visitors to the FHC doing genealogical research as: June, 2003 to end of year, 210; 2004, 661; 2005, 1023. Officers elected for 2006 are: President, Dee Burr; Vice-president, Kathleen McMurrin; Secretary, Ruth Fisher; Treasurer, Nancie Carrigan; Newsletter editor, Sally Jo Gibson Chris Scudder gave an excellent program on Military records. He is extremely familiar with them as he helped to make these records while he was in the service. Chris said that the things we are looking for in these records are: names (also relationships), events (birth, marriage, death), places, and dates. Before you start hunting for a record you should decide if it is possible that there will be such records--or, in other words, did this ancestor live at a time when he would have been in the military? You could learn some of this from family stories, pictures, census, grave headstones, obituaries or memorials. He also told what records would have been kept and how to obtain them. Because of the Privacy Act only limited family members can obtain records from the last 90 years. There will be no meeting in the month of December. The next meeting will be Jan. 12, 2006. The society’s weather policy states that if Harrison schools are closed, there will be no meeting. The Boone County Genealogy Society is open to any person wishing to join. It is not just for people researching Boone County records. The society has two major focuses: to help members become more proficient in their research and to develop research material for Boone County researchers. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Family History Center, Valley View Church Road west of Hwy 7 South of Harrison. All are welcome. BCGS October 2005 Meeting | --October 17th, 2005 11:18 PM |

| 13 October 2005 BCGS regular monthly meeting | |
| President Ruth Fisher led the business session of the Boone County Genealogical Society in its regular monthly meeting on October 13, 2005, at the Family History Center, Harrison. Twenty members and one guest were present. James McMurrin, webmaster of the society’s upcoming website reported that it would probably be accessible to members and to the public sometime in November. The online address will be http://www.BoCoArGen.com. At present it’s “under construction” and is parked at GoDaddy.com. Some of the headline topics will be: Home, About Us, About Boone County, Events, History, Membership, News, Products and Resources. There will also be a place where researchers will be able to insert the surname they are researching. This will enable family members to connect with others searching for the same records. BCGS members who manned the genealogy booth at the District Fair reported that several people were assisted with methods of research and sources of materials. This was a joint effort of the Boone County Museum, Boone County Library, Family History Center and the Boone County Genealogical Society to introduce folks to the various holdings and purposes of each organization. Members of each group contributed in some way to this project. The program was given by members present. Several members had brought a favorite genealogy book that might be suitable for another member to add to their “Christmas Wish List.” A brief resume of each book and importance of each was shared with the group. Some of the books reviewed were, “The Handy Book,” published by Everton Publishing Co.; “Tennesseans in the Civil War,” (2 vol. set); “The Journal of John Fontaine;” “How To Do Everything With Your Genealogy,” by Morgan; “County History Book(s),” (many counties in the U.S., including Boone County, Arkansas, have published these); “County Books” (a series of books by Schweitzer); and “The Record of Bruton Parish Church (Williamsburg, VA).” The books were then passed around for the members to view. Information on DeedMapper and examples of its uses was handed out, as well as how audiotapes of programs presented at National Genealogy Conferences may be ordered online at www.audiotapes.com.
